Welcome to barbacco,

A trattoria that was inspired by an idea that began to take shape before we even opened Perbacco, our restaurant next door. In contrast, we wanted to create a casual place with an emphasis on simple, delicious Italian food, drawing inspiration from all the regions of Italy. On our last trip to Italy, we had lunch at a small trattoria in a town on the Ligurian coast. The place had been there for a long time and had become an institution with the locals. Furnished with small communal tables, this trattoria gave us the inspiration for the type of place we wanted to create. A place with high energy and a convivial atmosphere, where our guests could share a table with friends as well as new acquaintances. We created barbacco as a modern trattoria, reflecting a part of San Francisco’s city life, a casual dining experience that still delivers quality food and wine and attentive, personable service. Come join us and experience what inspired us.

Sincerely,
Owners Umberto Gibin & Staffan Terje, General Manager Maria Eugenia Armando,
and Chef de Cuisine Sarah Burchard

Reservations available online only for parties up to 6 people.

The menus at barbacco offer San Francisco’s bounty of ingredients in dishes inspired by favorites found throughout the streets of urban Italy. Each menu is crafted to meet the needs of both lunch and dinner guests. At lunch, barbacco serves a seasonal and rotating selection of sandwiches, salads, baked pastas, salumi, and entrees that are also be available to-go
For dinner, the restaurant offers dishes that are inspired by Gibin’s and Terje’s travels in Italy, and the menu is designed for guests to have the flexibility to enjoy a multicourse meal or just a simple bite with a glass of wine.

Additionally the restaurant serves and sells artisanal products exclusive to barbacco, such as their house-cured salumi and 2-week-old olive oil imported directly from Italy, thanks to the team’s longstanding relationships with international farmers.

Designed by acclaimed architect Cass Calder Smith (CCS Architecture: Perbacco), barbacco is sleek and urbane with a welcoming feel.

"The interior has a chic veneer, utilizing the building's original brick walls on one side to play against the sleek marble bar, stainless steel canopy and support columns. It feels urban, Italian, and really good to be there."
